About The Position
Key Responsibilities
- Measures and cuts insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors.
- Fits insulation around obstructions, and shapes insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
- Determines the amounts and types of insulation needed, and methods of installation, based on factors such as location, surface shape, and equipment use.
- Installs sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws in order to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage.
- Apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, tanks, and vessels, to help control noise and maintain temperatures.
- Reads blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
- Covers, seals, or finishes insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or asphalt mastic.
- Prepares surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins to surfaces.
- Prepares surfaces for painting by brushing, scraping, cleaning, filling, sanding, or pressure washing.
- Selects the appropriate painting and coatings based on application, physical conditions, and usage needs.
- Covers surfaces with drop cloths or tape to protect surfaces during painting.
- Applies primer, paint, and sealers to cover surfaces as necessary.
- Communicates effectively in order to perform essential functions of the job.
- Performs other job duties as assigned as assigned by supervision.
- Works inside and outside in varying degrees of weather and temperature conditions.
- Completes required safety training as directed.
Key Qualifications
For this position candidates must have successfully completed the FFCC pre-employment requirements including filling out a FutureFuel application and having a GED/school diploma. Must have experience with general construction techniques required. Have specific experience with insulation and painting techniques and procedures. Job requires analyzing information and using logic to address work-related issues and problems. Must have the ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks. Must be strong in initiative, self-directed and committed to follow-through.
